Ace of Diamond
Feb. 2nd, 2015 01:24 pmI take back every bad thing I said about Ace of Diamond! No wait, I don't. Protagonist boy Sawamura really is annoying for the first few episodes (if not more), but he is hilarious and pretty loveable later on. And the rest of the characters are great too. I think Miyuki is my favourite. I like how smart he is.
The show's humour reminds me of Slam Dunk, which is a good thing. :)

Rec a sports anime series for my mom?
Aug. 23rd, 2014 01:08 pmSo my mom has finished watching all of Prince of Tennis (she didn't seem surprised at all by the ending) and she doesn't want to watch any of the OAVs because they don't really finish their story lines.
Can anyone rec another series for her to watch?
She likes:
-silly, unrealistic stuff (eg: she likes Yowamushi Pedal and doesn't like Haikyuu)
-finished series
As much as I would love to give her Slam Dunk, I think it would be too slow for her. :(
[Edit] I forgot the mention that she has already seen Kuroko no Basket!

All da sports anime
Jul. 15th, 2014 11:13 pmBeen watching a lot of sports anime lately--though perhaps I shouldn't say "watching" when I've only been half paying attention to the animated high school boys running around and screaming on my TV screen.
( From least recently to most recently watched: Free!, Eyeshield 21, Haikyuu, Diamond no Ace, Yowamushi Pedal, Ping Pong, Kuroko no Basket )
After bingeing on so much sports anime, I think what I really want is a series that deconstructs sports anime. A show that would expose the id of the shounen sports protagonist! That would reveal the consequences of maiming yourself for life (physically, mentally, academically) so you could get a measly high school trophy! The Evangelion of sports anime! Ha ha, come to think of it I would probably hate it.
I also really want to watch a female sports series one of these days. (At least Haikyuu acknowledges that a girls' team exists at the school.) I need to look up that girl tennis show I saw a bit of once...

New Rurouni Kenshin manga

Only two chapters so far. There's also an episode zero, but I haven't seen a translated version yet.
From what I hear, it's not the same story as the live-action movie version that was recently released.

Nov. 29th, 2010 08:06 pmDoes anyone know any good, short Rurouni Kenshin fanfics that would be appropriate to give to a Gr. 10 ESL (English as a Second Language) student I'm tutoring? I'm trying to get him to read more in his free time. A humour fic would be nice, but other genres would be fine too, as long as the vocab/content isn't too difficult. His favourite character is Kenshin.
