The fic and art for Exchange on the Big Bridge have been revealed :)

I received two lovely gifts!

That Imperial Witch, a piece of FF6 fanart by CorpseBrigadier
Terra, being floaty and Amanoesque

Rays of Hope, an FF6 fic by Siver
Not everything can be so simple. A night in Mobliz and a talk while Terra wrestles with her feelings.

And I wrote a fic!

More Than Mere Etiquette
Cyan attempts to teach Gau table manners, but Gau ends up teaching him a thing or three.

This was not an FFVI-only challenge, or even an FF-only challenge--it just happened that all my involvement ended up being FFVI-related :D

'Twas a fun exchange! Nice and low-key, and really well-run. Hats off to sunberry for organizing!

Hi writer/artist! Thank you so much for fulfilling my request!

Request #1: FFIV
Rydia, Rosa, and/or Porom
Basically I want the FFIV ladies to get some attention because they are all awesome :D

Request #2: FFVI
Celes (and/or Terra, who wasn't nominated except in combination with Kefka, so I didn't put her in my requests on A03)
Ditto for the FFVI ladies!

I am pretty easy to please. I love humour, action, plot, no plot, romance, pron, gen, mystery, deathfic, Cthulu fic, everything! Almost anything goes! Any rating is okay! There is very little that fazes me. The only thing that I am not too interested in is AU fanfic for the sake of AU. (AU fanart is okay.) Don't get me wrong, I like AU and often write it myself, but I like to see a strong sense of purpose in it, not just a change of scenery for the sake of it.

In general, I love it when a writer/artist has a strongly specific understanding of the world and/or characters, and is able to illuminate something about the source material that I didn't see or think of before. Or maybe they just make some ridiculous in-joke that only makes sense if you know the source material XD

These are my specific requests, but feel free to take another tack. I am not picky, so honestly you can do almost anything you like. Feel free to post an anonymous message if you have any questions! :D

Best,
Flonnebonne

I was lucky enough to get THREE fics for Not Ready for Prime Time 2019 and I love them all so much! Thank you so much to FireEye and BridgetMcKennitt for these!

1. Dragon's Pact (FFIV) by FireEye
Lunarians have long memories. Rydia & Cecil. (Who's yer One to Be Born from a Dragon now?!)

2. Sunlight Breaking Through the Clouds by FireEye
Locke rather accidentally drops in on Sabin during a snowstorm. (My new favourite thing in the world is Sabin and Locke being buds.)

3. Reading ahead (Waya, Isumi, Hikaru) by BridgetMcKennitt

Isumi may not have wanted to participate in the bet, but he was going to use all of his strength to win it. (Who doesn't love Isumi being all sneaky-like?)

AND, as a bonus, I kind of got a fanart gift from the fabulous laughingpineapple, who saw my Not Ready for Prime Time letter a while back and randomly drew fanart for one of my requests...for a different challenge :D

Fanart: Locke and Sabin - gossip gossip gossip by laughingpineapple

Check out the rest of her art in that series...actually, just check out her art! Such unique ideas and style, love it :D

Title: From This Dawn, Unto the Next
Fandom: FF6
Characters: Cyan, Celes, Locke, Sabin, Gau, Edgar
Wordcount: Too many 16,209
Summary: Cyan knows not the ways of these strange folk with whom he travels, nor does he care to know. (Nor does he care to think of what he has left behind.) Written for The_Exile for Not Prime Time 2019.

Read it on A03
Read it on FF.net

Not my best work, methinks, but personally meaningful to me.

Celes means sky and Terra means earth, right? Never mind that Terra is actually Tina in the original Japanese script--we'll get to that a bit later.

Celes = Sky
Maybe it's just because the game developers were incluenced by that Amano drawing of Celes with a bird, but the game does seem to put Celes in the air in a lot of her important scenes (the balcony of the opera house, the cliff on the Solitary Isle, the rebirth of the Falcon, her nearly falling to her death in her ending with Locke). One of her major motifs seems to be falling/flying.

Terra = Earth
Meanwhile Terra is seen in a lot of earthy caves for her important scenes (Narshe, the Esper world flashback, the Sealed Gate, finding the Espers in Thamasa, even the side quest in the Ancient Castle). Her theme song is incorporated into the overworld theme of the World of Balance. If Terra = earth, then the Empire's actions against the earth--their deeper and deeper delving for power (literal delving, into the caves where Espers can be found) and their eventual ruin of the whole planet--are crystallized in the form of Terra, this girl who remembers nothing about herself but only knows that everyone wants to use her for something.

But once Terra taps into her Esper form, she flies a lot too...literally. It's almost like...even if her motif is earth, it's also about escaping it.

Earth and Sky Meet at the Horizon
Over the course of the game Terra's earth joins with Celes' sky. Celes starts high up there (revered general) and Terra starts down below (slave crown-wearing bio-weapon), and this power distance is very apparent in the first scenes we see them together, as in Terra's flashback to Gestahl's speech, where Celes stands with the emperor and Terra stands in the back. But by the end of the game they are in the same place, standing together, two women no longer forced to fight, but choosing to fight.

Cute fact: Celes + Tina = Celestina, an Italian name that means "heavenly." The last thing we see in FF6 before the end credits? Terra's hair streaming free as the Falcon soars through wide open skies.

And Thus a Traitor Was Born (12,948 words)

Fandom: FF6
Characters: Locke, Celes, Edgar, Cyan, Gau, Sabin
Summary: One day after the Battle of Narshe, Locke and Celes investigate the mineshaft where three Imperial soldiers—one of them wearing a slave crown—tried to capture an Esper. Celes seems strangely preoccupied with the fates of the two soldiers spirited away by the Esper...

Or, a story that tries to answer this question: how could Locke ever think Celes was a traitor?

I wrote 6264 words in Feburary

I've written 19609 words this year.

I'm 26% of the way to my goal of 75,000 words in 2017.

Am following advice from the book 5000 Words Per Hour: Write Faster, Writer Smarter, and am liking it, but my hands hurt! Especially the third and fourth fingers on my right hand. So I'm going to follow one of the last pieces of advice in the book, which is to use voice dictation. It's a weird adjustment, it takes a long time to train the software, and the software/hardware seems kind of finicky, but in the long run it'll hopefully be worth it, both at work and home.

Also got a little more involved with the GYWO community, which is active and friendly and absolutely wonderful. I tried out some of the community's advice on outlining and productivity, signed up for a bingo card on literary devices (I wish I had chosen genre or setting instead -_-), and participated in a word war--just once, because the schedule doesn't work out with mine, but I'll try again when I'm less busy with work.

Currently writing: a long, silly FF6 fic, and my assignment for Interhigh 2017! Also need to eventually type out (or dictate?) my silly handwritten Chihayafuru fic, and get back to work on my silly novel. La la la ~

Title: Final Fantasy VI: The Last Name
Genre: Humour, Parody
Wordcount: 3883
Summary: Setzer realizes he doesn't know the last name of anyone on his ship, and goes on a quest to fill in the passenger logbook. This ends up being a weirder endeavour than he thought.

(yes, I realize this fic has a lame title, but the fic is lame too, in a very particular way)

Have I ever recced this here? I can't find it in my tagged entries so let's post this possibly again.

Final Fantasy 6: Reversing the Design

Game design analysis is crazy good!

flonnebonne: (Default)
Title: No Wings for You!
Fandom: FF6
Characters: Edgar, Setzer, Celes, Sabin
Genre: HUMOUR. And a bit of angst. And I guess a little romance.
Wordcount: 10,067
Summary: Edgar and Setzer's Excellent Drunken Adventures in Airship Repair. Apologies for all the fake mechanical whatsit!
Note: Written for branfordtough as part of DOINK! Final Fantasy Exchange 2014, in response to her prompt: During the second half of FFVI's storyline, Edgar and Setzer get to know each other better through the inadvisable combination of alcohol consumption and airship maintenance/repair. Whether this ends in awkward, drunken makeouts, a narrowly averted crash, both, or neither is up to you!

Thank you to accidental_zombie for the beta! Any remaining errors are mine.

My goodness there are some mighty ambitious FF6 ROM hacks out there.

In other, slightly related news, I still haven't picked which DOINK! prompt to write. Ahhhhhh procrastination.

Title: In Two
Fandom: FF6
Characters: Terra, Celes, cast
Genre: AU
Wordcount: 3903
Summary: In Narshe, Terra's Esper side flies off, "screaming across the sky"...and leaves her human side behind.
Note: I am not sure when I am going to continue this! I just need to post it and get it out of my head.

This fansong is slightly perverted (I think?0 but super catchy. Set to the music that plays in the Coliseum. Ultros is covered in debt!

About Locke is a fancomic about why Locke is a dick. (That's the word they use.) I actually like Locke, but I do admit he can be a dick.

How to Break Final Fantasy VI is an article about how to break the entire game with an awesome glitch. The Relm sketch glitch and Psycho Cyan are nothing next to this.

Well, I probably should have posted this when I posted the fic, but meh!

Title: The Sleeping Beauty
Fandom: FF6
Characters: Celes, Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Shadow, Cyan, Gau, Setzer, Relm
Genre: Drama, AU
Wordcount: 11,975
Summary: What if, after one year asleep, Celes still does not wake?
Important Note: This is a revised version of the story I posted on April 2.
The main changes are:
1) New material at the beginning and end of the story, with significant changes to the plot;
2) Removal of unnecessary lines to promote clarity and better flow, hopefully, throughout the story;
3) Splitting up the story into thirteen sections instead of two, because I realize this is a damn long story;
4) Chapter titles.

Hopefully the story is better now! I am leaving the old version up for posterity's sake, if you'd like to compare. Comments and criticism are welcome, always.

Chapter index
Part 1: Aria
Part 2: Wedding Waltz
Part 3: Forever Rachel
Part 4: Coin of Fate

Part 7: Dancing Mad
Part 8: Epitaph
Part 9: Troops March On
