I'm sure there are plenty of amazing and intelligent responses to this show on the internets, and I've started reading some of them, like [livejournal.com profile] canis_m's stuff over here

Random thoughts on Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika:

-Man, this series is good.

-When Mami died, I gave a surprised "AIYA!"

-If Mami had wished for her something, anything else, like her parents' survival, she would have died a few seconds later but her wish would have come true, right? And she wouldn't have become a witch. Free wish!

-I so thought the witch from the Walpurgis Night (which is an actual thing, I found out) was Homura or Madoka, and that's why it was so strong and Homura could never defeat it. But they never said who the witch was, right? Ah well.

-When my little brother was watching Madoka (before I watched it) I made him read Isaac Asimov's short story "The Last Question." It's all about entropy and....bloooouuuurgh, don't want to spoil the ending. But let's just say he was very creeped out by the timing of my rec.

-A few months ago someone gave my little brother a life-sized Kyuubei doll. Its head is so big that it keeps pitching forward on its face. My brother put a scarf around its neck and a film cannister under its chin to prop it up. The scarf is a Burberry--my dad found it on a bench somewhere in Japan.

-I thought Sayaka and Kyoko's stories were kind of forced. I mean, Sayaka, you just gave up all your free time and any chance at a career or family so you can run around and fight creepy witches and probably die horribly. Why are you so freaked out about your soul being separated from your body? And Kyoko, you were all mean and selfish but you became nice way too fast.

-Why is it all the family names of the Magical Girls could also be used as given names? Kaname, Akemi, Miki, Tomoe, Sakura. Is this a moe thing? It's kind of confusing is what it is.

Actually, I do have some slightly intelligent things to say, including some comments on the feminist aspects of the show, such as they are, but those will be in another post.

I think Sayaka's main thing was that she was obsessed with being a hero, not realizing what that really means. Not to mention, 14-year-olds don't make the best decisions... But yeah, I didn't get why having her soul separated from her body made her angst to the extend it did.

I did think Kyoko suddenly warming up happened really quickly, but I guess it was due to episode constraints. It made sense though, Sayaka was the type of magical girl Kyoko used to be, so trying to "save" her could've been Kyoko's way of making things right again. Plus, Kyoko gave the impression of being VERY lonely and lonely people tend to be desperate for positive human interaction.

I think it's just to make them more memorable, there's a lot of moe girls to compete with these days. XD
