And lo, the scales fell from our eyes

The
blind_go authors have been revealed!

Thank you to everyone who read my fics! They were both a lot of fun to write, though I can honestly say that "Two by Four" was more fun to write than "Blind Going In." Probably more fun to read too!
I feel extremely flattered that a lot of people guessed
murinae wrote "Blind Going In," because HER FIC WAS SO FULL OF AWESOME. When I started reading "Better Days" I'd meant to just read one part and then go to bed, but I couldn't stop. I read the whole thing through and wanted more. It put me in a daze, indeed a better daze than usual (shut up). I should have known muri wrote it--she's one of those authors who can balance humour and angst well in a long fic, and she writes terrific dialogue. Actually, one of the main reasons I didn't think it could be her was because she seemed too busy to write something that long.
The other fic that blew me away was "A Proof by Contradiction" by
petronia, which was wonderfully different and subtly heartbreaking. I thought it have been written by
tariwaegmir at first just because she mentioned that her fics often start out as camera shots, but it seemed too obvious. -_- And after I did a bit of research I realized it fit petronia's style a lot more.
I have to say, doing some research sure paid off. Because I checked out
zoesque's journal I saw her references to wanting to write a Katamari Damacy fic, so hello "Lonely Rolling Star"! I just had to see the title to know that one.
A lot of times my gut instinct was wrong, wrong, wrong. But then again, a lot of times my "research" (ha!) was wrong, wrong, wrong too. The only reason I placed third in guessing was because I guessed on all the fics and not just the ones I was reasonably sure of. The only other fic I was pretty sure of was
issen4's "Just Add Water" because she'd had Hikaru say she wanted to be a ramen chef in another fic.
My actual guesses (correct guesses in bold):
Blind Go: ukefied
One Hundred Years of Go: meitachi
Out of the Bag: lucathia_rykatu
Death's Hands: ladyseishou
Crossing the Bar: katharos_8
Just Add Water: issen4
Unfinished Game: murinae
Lonely rolling star: zoesque
Sai/go: ladyseishou
Of Fathers and Sons: readerofasaph
A Proof by Contradiction: petronia
Explain It to Me: aishuu
Needless: trixie_chick
In the Darkness: catwho
Leaving: orangensaft
Waya Not: kitsune_jade
Unwritten: meitachi
Drunk: lucathia_rykatu
Complications: tarigwaemir
All Sunday: huabot
Pomegranates: katharos_8
Misery Loves Company: svz_insanity
One's Prize, Another's Price: issen4
Reveille: trixie_chick
Here with Me: zhynchan
Destined Rivals: trixie_chick
Better Days: supacat
I said it before and I'll say it again: if my guesses have in any way made you want to hurl bricks at me ("How could she think I wrote that? Doesn't she know me at all?"), please don't hurl bricks at me. Do feel free to ask me why I made a specific guess, but be warned that the answer might be "because it was there?"
And I probably shouldn't say this but I'm delighted that no one guessed that "Blind Going In" was mine. Not even
tarigwaemir! My goal for the next round of blind_go is to confound Tari as much as possible. She made a chart of all the authors' punctuation styles. A chart.
Hints that "Blind Going In" was mine (but not punctuation-wise--you'll have to ask Tari about that):
1. In murinae's meme, I mentioned that I like beating metaphors with a stick (like in my fic "Go Fish"). "Blind Going In" is all about beating the concept of blindness with a stick. To make things less obvious, I tried to refrain from making too many jokes about going blind during the guessing period, although one joke did slip through. But I really, really wanted to make more jokes. *sheepish*
2. Something I also mentioned in murinae's meme was that I don't write much description. That's true, but more specifically I don't write much description of go games, because I bloody don't know how. I think "Blind Going In" is a bit thin, actually, because of that. It's not a problem in all my fics, but I think it was a problem in this one. Maybe I'll try to fix it...someday. That's a Hikaru-style "someday" btw. *is lazy*
3. The ending of "Blind Going In" was rather similar to the ending of my Hikago/Ender's Game crossover, right down to Touya taking black. HAH LIKE ANYONE WOULD NOTICE THAT because it's a fairly generic kind of ending anyway. The only reason I mention this is because it stressed me out when I noticed it after submitting the fic.
Hints that "Two by Four" was mine:
1. I WAS ON CRACK AT THE TIME, but that's not unusual.
2. There is no two.
Um, I think that's all I have to say? Or is this post not fricking long enough as it is?
I feel extremely flattered that a lot of people guessed

Date: 2006-09-24 05:04 pm (UTC)See, sometimes your fics are utterly serious (like Blind Going In) but sometimes they're utter crack, like Two by Four!!
Haha, I should have made a guess for all of them too. Or, at least two guesses for yours since you wrote more than one. XD;;

Date: 2006-09-25 10:13 am (UTC)Yes, Kaga/Tsutsui definitely need more love! I think they're hotter than Hikaru/Akira in a lot of ways. They're just so naughty.

Date: 2006-09-25 01:35 pm (UTC)And I actually guessed for all of the fics too (clearly, this method works). XD I took notes on style and grammar and punctuation for every fic, and still only ended up with about 10 reasonably certain guesses. So the rest were just randomly distributed. XD

Date: 2006-09-26 12:02 pm (UTC)Ah, you were one of those people. The ones who took notes. I probably should have taken notes when I was checking out people's previous fics, but I was too lazy. I just did a godawful amount of clicking back and forth between the blind_go fics and the authors' journals instead.
Btw, which keychain did you choose?
