I knew the name Hayden Panettiere was familiar. The actress who plays Claire on Heroes did the voice of Kairi in Kingdom Hearts I and II. No wonder both characters annoy me.

I like Heroes. I do. But more often than not I find something to complain about in it. A lot of the characters annoy me, for instance (Claire, Peter, Simone, Mohinder, Niki, and occasionally Micah)--partly because of the way they're written, and partly because I don't think the actors are amazing enough. They're fine, but they're not amazing. Or maybe they're not directed well enough. I dunno. But it seems to me that many of the actors rely on a rather limited set of facial expressions and speech patterns, and it starts to grate after a while. Well, actually, the actress who plays Niki/Jessica has a lot of expressions between the two of them...the problem is more that Niki is so wimpy that it annoys the hell out of me. Simone, too, annoys me more because her character is a bitch than because her acting sucks.

I wish there were at least one female character on Heroes that I really liked. Candace, the woman who can make illusions, seemed like she might be interesting, but it turns out that she's probably just an overweight person with self-image problems. Lame reason to join an evil organization, and so...I dunno, stereotypically female?

Didn't like the Season 1 finale. Felt very much like a network exec went through the script with a magic marker and decided it needed to be more "uplifiting" or something. "Why yes! One person can make a difference! The future is not set in stone, it's set by your choices!" Yawn. Never heard that one before.

I wanted the bomb to go off. I wanted Sylar to become president so I could buy a t-shirt to show my support. I wanted the story to be so tightly plotted that the vision of the future they showed us could actually come to pass without contradicting itself. Instead, they simply erased that future without explaining why the future can be changed now when everything they showed us before indicated otherwise. The bomb should have happened and it's a cheat that it didn't.

Think about it. All of Isaac's other paintings came true--he painted a cheerleader dying at homecoming, and one did die (just not the cheerleader we expected). And then there was the ueslessness of time travel. It seemed like no matter how much Hiro or future!Hiro mucked around with the timestream, the future could not be changed. Charlie died. The cheerleader was saved but the future still sucked--because all future!Hiro had done by travelling into the past was self-fulfill what had already come to pass. Claire had actually never died in his past, because future!Hiro had delivered the message that saved her. Future!Hiro only thought she died because she went into hiding. Or that's how it seemed to me.

Inevitable, inevitable, inevitable, we were told over and over that the bomb was gonna blow, and Linderman's organization was so damn sure of it too. I wanted Peter, with all his good intentions, to be the bomb. I wanted his good intentions to result in the bomb. It seemed like a more poignant message than the pat finale they gave us.

It maketh me angry. I love this show so much, I want it to be excellent.

Also, there was not enough kick-ass in the finale. Sylar and Peter needed to use their powers to do crap instead of, like, punching each other like stupidheads. Hello, Peter, you can stop time, please to be trying not to suck any more than you do. And Sylar totally should have used his telekinesis and his ability to liquify ordinary appliances in order to make a shiny, pointy weapon, a la T1000.

Oh well, there's always next season.

Random observations

-Sylar's mom is a bitch. I'm just glad her son turned out so well.

-Sylar is the smartest guy on the show and he really should become president. I love the fact that he called the FBI on Ted.

-If Sylar ever got Hiro and Molly's powers and Mohinder's list of super beings, he could pinpoint his targets on a map, leisurely warp around the world, and eat their brains without breaking a sweat. And since he has Charlie's power, he could even learn his victim's language before going off to meet them so he could taunt them properly before they die. He likes doing that. It's one of his most endearing traits.

-We never see Sylar go into a convenience store or laundromat or anything, but you know he has to. He's always on the road. He can only raid his victims' fridges so often.

-Ok, I'll shut up about Sylar now.

-Now that Claire has left the cozy paradise of her suburban home, she never gets killed anymore. Man, I never knew Texas was that dangerous.

-Additionally, she seems to have no problem fluffing her hair into perfection every day even when she's on the run. It drives me crazy that she's always complaining about her life and crap and still has perfect hair. Kind of like Buffy in Season 6.

-Linderman was underused. The man loved pot pie! He really should have lasted longer than he did.

-I like pot pie.

-The scenes in Japan look nothing like Japan. Even the subway looks all wrong.

-Wait, there is one reason I'm glad the bomb didn't go off. Ando didn't die! I love Ando. And Hiro. If Ando died, we'd never get to listen to their Japanese conversations either.

-Hiro's sister is hot. She should get more screen time.

-Mohinder is hot, but his annoyingness offsets that.

-Mohinder has 3 powers:

1. Punking out super beings using only ordinary objects
(Knocked out Sylar with a goddamn whiteboard in Peter's apartment, killed the Haitian with a lethal injection in the episode that takes place in the future, and knocked out Matt Parkman with a gun in the episode before the Season 1 finale. Sylar and Matt, at least, should have heard Mohinder coming.)

2. Holding doors like he means it
(At the end of the future-NY episode, he holds a door against a radioactive army or something, it's the silliest thing ever. I loved it. This would be enough proof on its own, but if you want more, in the episode before the Season 1 finale he is seen holding the door to Molly's room against Matt and Mr. Bennett.)

3. Working for evil without meaning to
(Because Sylar loves Mohinder. Even when Sylar is president. And Linderman's organization loves Mohinder too.)

-Peter is such a wuss.

-Peter's mom is scary, which explains a lot, I think.

-If Micah and Molly get too much screen time together next season I will hurl.

-That said, I like Molly well enough.

-I like Parkman too, he has a sense of humour, and that blonde FBI agent was pretty cool at times. Too bad the writers are making her into a Scully (I liked Scully, but I always wished she would just believe and get it over with).

-SYLAR FOR PRESIDENT.

And that's all she wrote.

I have no idea what Heros is, but you make me want to watch it.

Also, I could have sworn that I friended you, but..I didn't. Do you mind if I friended you?
