My goodness, that was a fabulous movie. The kids are SUCH better actors now. I watched part of the first movie right before heading out to watch GoF, and they were pretty god-awful back then. Not their faults, they had no experience and a bad director. Now they are ROXXORz.
Loved the Weasley twins of course. They got a lot of screen time for a reason.
Cho and Fleur were not as hot as expected. Cedric made up for it though. But why Cedric asked out Cho--who has a weird accent and is cute but not hot--is a mystery to me.
I liked Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort. There, I said it. At least he's got personality. It's easy to be boringly evil (See: Sauron).
Barty Crouch was actually a pretty decent guy in this movie. Not having Percy around to kowtow to him sort of made him seem like less of a bureaucrat. And Crouch throwing his son in jail wasn't a hard-assed thing to do at all, not with the way Jr. was ranting like an evil maniac in court. Actually, Crouch kind of had no personality whatsoever.
If you hadn't read the book, I wonder if you would be able to tell that Neville's parents were tortured by Barty Crouch Jr.? Also, I wonder if you could tell that Harry and Hermione are just good friends and Hermione is destined to be with Ron?
Ginny was around! This is good because people are going to need to remember who she is in the next movie.
Oh Cedric. Oh Harry. You made me cry when you came back from the graveyard. Probably the most powerful scene of the movie, to see the spectator's faces turn from joy to horror and Harry sobbing over Cedric's body and unwilling to pull away.
I think it was an advantage that I read Goblet of Fire years ago and have not touched it since. It's always distracting when you notice every little detail that got lost/changed in the transition from book to movie.
So far GoF is the book that has had the most visual material to work with. All those tasks were practically written for the screen. Preeettttyy dddrraagggoonnn.
The fast pace of the movie probably prevents people from noticing the plot holes. Like why didn't anybody notice/care that Barty Crouch Jr. escaped from Azkaban? How come Harry came second in the Second Task but he got to start first with Cedric in the Thrid Task? Why didn't anybody notice that the Triwizard Cup was a portkey? Why did the bad guys use the Cup as a portkey instead of, say, Harry Potter's pajamas or something?
Feel like reading GoF again.
