Korean animation

I watch a lot of cartoons. Not anime, cartoons. The kind of stuff you watch on Saturday mornings.
In the past couple of years, I've noticed that there's a huge number of Korean names in the credits of these shows--like Justice League and Teen Titans (Warner Brothers), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (4Kids TV), Avatar (Nickelodeon) and Samurai Jack (Cartoon Network). And there's more that I didn't notice myself--like Ren and Stimpy for instance, and CG animated stuff. So all these North American cartoons with their smooth, high-quality animation are actually being done overseas, but you don't really hear about it, do you? At least not in the general media, and I admit I don't follow the animation rags. Or maybe I'm just out of it. Anyway, I find it interesting. It's apparently been going on for a long time too, or so says this article:
The Korean Animation Explosion
One thing the article mentions is that Korean animators work hard (and are undoubtedly paid less than NA animators). Whereas we Canadians are known as the laziest workers of all in the animation field and no one wants to hire our people anymore, according to a friend of mind who's studying CG animation. I'm not trying to pick a fight here, I'm just saying that that's the reputation we have. A pity, considering that Mainframe (the company that made Reboot, Beast Wars, etc.) is based in Vancouver. Or it was. Are they still around?
Ah well, there's always Pixar. I think.
