Blind_go reveal is up!
Away from LJ (kind of)
I'm not going to be commenting and posting that much between now and December 2, when I'll be taking the JLPT 3 test (a test for Japanese proficiency, or lack thereof). I am SO gonna fail. As I told
juin like five minutes ago, I should probably take some lessons or something but, eh.
I don't post much on LJ anyway even under normal conditions, so y'all won't notice the difference! Hyuk hyuk. I'll still be reading my flist regularly, because checking my flist has become an compulsive disorder for me.
My blind_go fic
My fic was Go Wars, aka the Star Wars fusion. Credit for the idea goes partly to
shinra_lackey...she did a crack edit of a hentai Hikago doujin with some Star Wars cameos in it that was full of WRONG and which gave me lots of wonderful thoughts about fusing the two series together. After she posted it we had a great little comment-chat and starting throwing around casting ideas. Not sure I'll use all of our early ideas--I'm leaning toward Kaga for Han Solo's role, rather than Waya, for instance--but it was still a very fruitful conversation. Anyway, that's where my blind_go story came from. I wonder if anyone was able to guess me from seeing my comments to shinra_lackey?
I, er, had really hoped to write more of Go Wars before the deadline, but I'm kind of glad I didn't rush it. I need more time to let the plot germinate. And I still need to think about how to mesh the philosophies of the two universes. For me, a crossover or fusion really has to go beyond just "let's have these characters meet up!" or "let's cast these characters from this series into this other series!" The author has to address what makes the two universes tick, what the similarities between them are, the differences, why we should even be bothering to break down fourth walls or fifth elephants or whatever. I don't think I've really properly thought Go Wars through yet--and yeah, it's crack, but if I'm going to write a long fic it's damn well going to have to have some deeper implications. May the Force be with me.
Blind_go fic recs
My fave fics this round were Real (virtual reality games) by
tarigwaemir and Between Black and White is Red (Akari POV, igo cult) by
trixie_chick. Both fics featured very stylized prose, as befitting their respective genres. Aw shit, did I just write "as befitting their respective genres"? I need to go to bed soon. Anyway, both of these fics managed to really grab my attention--they had a certain verve that kept my eyes glued to the screen. And the authors had obviously put a lot of thought into constructing their universes. They didn't just rewrite Hikago, they made me rethink the canon. And that's what a serious AU or crossover should do, in my book.
I think I didn't enjoy reading the fics as much as I should have, partly because of my general sleepiness these days and partly because it's hard to read so many fics in the same genre at the same time. And a lot of the fics seemed to feature a rather similar sort of prose (mine included)? A sort of neutral limited omniscient, fast-paced (because of deadline issues, I suppose), not a ton of exposition, and, uh, typoes. Made it hard to guess who wrote what.
Guessing
I didn't make any guesses on the official guessing post (me been busy), but I did attempt to claim the bounty on Tari at aishuu's post. I failed. :( I actually guessed that Tari wrote Black and White is Red, which turned out to be trixie_chick's fic. Pooh.

Date: 2007-10-10 02:04 pm (UTC)Anyway, will be sorry to see you go, as LJ is one of the few ways we can contact one another. Oh, and did you know Hikaru is homeless now? XP What is the world coming to?!

Date: 2007-10-11 10:10 am (UTC)I must admit I haven't read the two new chapters yet (ごめんね!). I need to reread some of the older parts to refresh my memory first. Plus I'm saving up the chapters to reward myself for when I finish memorizing my JLPT vocab. Stupid test.
Oh gosh, I don't think I can stand talking about the whole homeless issue. It gives me the willies. Or rather, Hikaru is the one having fun with the willies. I think he enjoys it.
I will still be around on LJ a little, as you can see from this inappropriately long comment, so never fear. :)

Date: 2007-10-11 10:04 am (UTC)By the way, I think I forgot to comment on your fic over at blind_go. So I'll just tell you now that I think your fic probably had the most polished writing of the lot. It had a lovely air of refinement and coyness to it--quite perfect for the Heian Court. But I was sleepy when I read it and the fish made my head hurt. >_< Still, I enjoyed it very much and it's definitely one of my top fics for this round of blind_go.
