I read SD before Hikago too, and it's extremely close to being my top manga. :)
The anime, as a whole, does suck compared to the manga because of the awful filler. But the episodes that are good are really good. The music and the animation become quite gorgeous in the middle of the series and go very well together. Watch episodes 28-30, if nothing else.
Ranma was my first anime crack addiction. You never forget your first crack addiction.
Yeah, DN was horribly disappointing, but I give it a lot of points for originality and for tackling some pretty tough ideas. Even if, um, it kind of gets distracted from that. But still.
