The Ender novels get even worse after Speaker of the Dead, believe it or not. The last one (Children of the Mind) is terrible. I think the Alvin Maker books are pretty interesting, although they're also getting worse.
Really? I find that fics based off Western tv shows etc. tend to have better plots, ie. they have one at all. But then, I haven't read all that much, and I usually just read things that are recced, so maybe I don't actually know what I'm talking about.
