There is something therapeutic about introducing someone to Hikaru no Go for the first time, watching them get reeled in by this lighthearted shonen romp through the land of some board game no one actually knows how to play, and then...

...watching them cry their little hearts out when Sai disappears in Vol 15., and there's just this empty space behind the curtains where Hikaru can't find him, and Hikaru goes looking everywhere for him, and then he's kneeling in the kifu room and bawling for Sai to come back so you can't help but cry some more waaaaah!!!!!

If I had to go through that, so do you, nyeeah.

Me too. But it's the volume directly responsible for me losing several hours of sleep because I was crying too hard.

You are a terrible person! Heh, having read the series for the first time in December, the pain is still fresh. A day or two after reading Vol. 15 I sent hestialuna a link to a screen cap of the scene where Hikaru plays go against someone and then turns around to say "How did I do, Sai?" and Sai isn't there and we all *die of sadness* but I just sent the link saying "Hey, look at this!" and she responded "Ahhhh! How could you do that me?" to which I could only respond "How could YOU do THIS to me?"

Oh god, and now you just did it to me again!!! WELL, HOW ABOUT that scene where Hikaru wakes up and looks down at his hand, but there isn't a fan in it. Take that!

Bwa wa haha!!!! All those terrible emotion- wrecking scenes you guys mentioned are so old hat to me now that I am mostly ok. No more fetal position for me!

(Returning the boomerang) How about when Hikaru is playing Isumi and realizes Sai is in his go? And even though Isumi kind of understands, Hikaru is still so terribly aloooooone in his wordless grief over the death of his friend who no one else ever knew. Look at this kid's tear streaked face. How can you not cry too?

I think we should collect all the worst sadface screenshots together.

Sounds like the start of a very successful tumblr. I love how we all sit around exclaiming "oh no, how dare it get sad, I am broken!" While digging to find MORE sadness. Fandom, basically.

Exactly, fandom! Real sadness is sad, fake people's sadness is cathartic.
