I've been on a massive Trigun bender recently. Watched the new series Trigun Stampede (which took some getting used to, but in the end I really enjoyed it), read the manga (which is amazing), and am rewatching the '98 anime (which I always loved, and still love). Now I'm reading fic and looking at fanart and listening to the OSTs and fanmixes and playlists and watching AMVs and just wanting to bask in <s>Wolfwood</s> Trigun for as long as I can.

I have lots of thoughts, but am too lazy to write those down right now. Instead, I'll just say that this doujinshi is a perfect, perfect missing scene from the end of the manga. MASSIVE SPOILERS!

comments

So ChatGPT (our new AI overlord) usually spits out the most boring stories ever, but I finally got a good one with this prompt: “Write a story in which shindou hikaru and touya akira turn into puddles of pudding.”

—-

Puddles of Pudding

Once upon a time, Shindou Hikaru and Touya Akira were playing a game of Go. The game was intense, and both players were giving it their all. Suddenly, a strange energy filled the room, and the two players began to feel strange.

As the energy grew stronger, Hikaru and Akira began to feel their bodies changing. They looked down and saw that their hands were turning into pudding. Shocked and confused, they tried to stand up, but their legs had also turned into pudding.

In a matter of seconds, Hikaru and Akira had completely transformed into puddles of pudding. They were still conscious, but they could not move or speak. They could only watch as their bodies slowly melted into the ground.

The other players in the room were horrified and didn't know what to do. They called for help, but no one knew how to reverse the strange transformation.

Days turned into weeks, and the puddles of pudding that were once Hikaru and Akira remained on the floor. Eventually, they were cleaned up and disposed of, and their disappearance became a mystery.

No one knows what caused the strange transformation, but some say it was the result of a curse from a rival Go player. Others believe it was a strange phenomenon caused by the intense energy of the game.

Regardless of the cause, the story of Hikaru and Akira turning into puddles of pudding became a cautionary tale for Go players everywhere. They knew that the game was intense, but they never expected it to have such a strange and terrifying consequence.

comments

So I’ve pledged to write 350 days out of the 365 days in 2020 for https://getyourwordsout.dreamwidth.org/.

...it’s been fun, so far? I’ve been writing purely orally, using Voice to text technology, mainly using the free Otter app, which also transcribes your words pretty well along with recording your voice. It creates a dynamic transcription that you can edit later on, and click on specific words to jump to that place in the recording. Kind of like a Ted talk transcript. It’s not that accurate when you are writing weird fantastical sentences with place names and character names that you made up yourself, and sentence structures that are, well, kind of nonsensical because you’re stumbling around trying to figure things out in your story world, but it’s good enough for a mangy first draft that you’re going to throw out anyway.

The first nice thing about writing with my voice is that I can do it anywhere, like when I’m walking my dog. Right now I am using my phone’s voice input (not Otter, just iOS) to write this entry while riding on a noisy bus. I’m just using the earbuds with microphone that came with my iPhone SE. It’s pretty accurate all things considered.

The other nice thing about riding with my voice is that I don’t destroy my back, shoulders and neck so much, although it’s still not perfect because I have to look at my phone sometimes. This is actually the main reason why I am investing so many brain cells and trying to learn how to become a more auditory thinker. This is actually the main reason why I am investing so many brain cells and trying to learn how to become a more auditory thinker.

For my second draft, I’ll probably have to use a paid program like Dragon, which I have never been able to get the hang of, but now that I have so much back pain in my life, but better time to learn?

I’m thinking in future of projecting a big screen on my ceiling and “writing“ while lying on a bed, dictating my orders to my machine servant. But who is the servant and who is the master really?

comments

Hi writer/artist! Thank you so much for fulfilling my request!

Request #1: FFIV
Rydia, Rosa, and/or Porom
Basically I want the FFIV ladies to get some attention because they are all awesome :D

Request #2: FFVI
Celes (and/or Terra, who wasn't nominated except in combination with Kefka, so I didn't put her in my requests on A03)
Ditto for the FFVI ladies!

I am pretty easy to please. I love humour, action, plot, no plot, romance, pron, gen, mystery, deathfic, Cthulu fic, everything! Almost anything goes! Any rating is okay! There is very little that fazes me. The only thing that I am not too interested in is AU fanfic for the sake of AU. (AU fanart is okay.)
Dear Not Ready for Prime Time Writer,

Thank you so much for taking my request :)

I am pretty easy to please. I love humour, action, plot, no plot, romance, pron, gen, mystery, deathfic, Cthulu fic, everything! Almost anything goes! Any rating is okay! There is very little that fazes me. The only things that I am not too interested in is AU for the sake of AU. Don't get me wrong, I like AU and often write it myself, but I like to see a strong sense of purpose in it, not just a change of scenery for the sake of it. In general, I love it when an author has a strongly specific understanding of the world and/or characters, and is able to illuminate something about the source material that I didn't see or think of before. Maybe they can roast Edgar together? Or they can fill each other in on Edgar's dirty laundry? Or they can be more serious, or a mixture of silly and serious...up to you!

These are my specific requests, but feel free to take another tack if that's what you're comfortable with and what your muse demands :)

Flonnebonne

comments

Ask Sakaguchi to make a game on an SNES cartridge. If you're feeling generous, give him a Chrono Trigger-sized cartridge.

1. Lock Tetsuya Nomura in a room and give him some acid so he can start drawing up...something. Something involving belts and hearts. NO EDITING ALLOWED.

2. Make pretty trailers based on whatever Nomura drew. Trailer must include mockups of gameplay so people will understand that development is definitely well on its way.

3. Plan out all side games and side movies and mobile games. Hire Sean Bean to play all side characters.

4. Make sure to announce several bombshells at E3. Watch hype grow like a weed. Send out cheques to shareholders.

5. Five years later: Think about actually developing the game.

6. Hire Outsourced Company to develop the game. Bring them to the room where acidified Nomura scribbled his soul in blood all over the walls. Tell them to Figure This Out. All employees of Outsourced Company receive free leather coats for inspiration.

7. Five years later: Realize that Outsourced Company is a film company and not a game company. Start sweating. Fetch Nomura from rehab and tell him to Fix Everything. With his well-organized and highly analytical mind, surely he can find solutions to all these problematic gameplay elements, like the fact that there is no gameplay.

8. Twenty years later: Quality Control says the game has neither quality nor control. Someone compares the game to a fetal monstrosity theatening to rip apart time and space, Chrono Cross style. Interesting idea, but the shareholders are starting to Panic, and the dev floor is filled with Heartless and Nobodies in leather coats.

9. Call Hajime Tabata and beg him to Fix Everything. Tabata politely explains that he doesn't do that anymore.

10. Cut out half of the planned storyline. Keep all the cutscenes (shiny!) and add more cooking/fishing/cell phone mini-games (more shiny!).

11. Release the game to the public. Make Nomura do some frantic hand waving and say it was all “creative genius choices,” not budget cuts.

12. Profit.

——

POST-LAUNCH DEVELOPMENT CYCLE

1. Release some rage-inducing DLCs and mobile games.

2. Profit.

——

...Have I mentioned that complaining about Kingdom Hearts 3 is now my full-time job?

comments

...is possibly the most disappointing game I have ever played! Just my personal opinion, since I know other people like the game, but...man, what the hell were they thinking? The main story in particular was a huge letdown. I was actively starting to dislike Sora at certain points.

KH1 and KH2 did not make me feel this way.

But I do like this video: Kingdom Hearts Explained. (Note: this was released before KH3, so it is actually completely unrelated to the rest of this post.)

This fic is essentially a list of descriptions of Hogwarts students but it is SO GOOD. It is also exceedingly hard to find so I am putting a link here for myself, for posterity.

So I read the novel Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it'll change your life, but it's fun, and the author has a brisk, breezy, highly readable style--the kind that makes you want to read on, but doesn't make you OBSESSED with the book to the point that you can't fall sleep. And since that was exactly the kind of book I was in the mood for, it worked for me.

( More of my review under the cut, with SPOILERS )

comments

So I wrote an Ender's Game fic for Yuletide 2018:
Title: Learning to Human
Fandom: Ender's Game
Characters: Valentine, Ender
Wordcount: 3158
Summary: Valentine and Ender, on the colony ship. An immediate sequel to Ender's Game. Directly contradicts Ender in Exile.

So I notice that I have a tendency to write stories in the EG universe in which: a) people are stuck in rooms b) one person teaches another person to be more human c) desks are important d) weird mystical bugger crap happens

OH WELL what can I say except that when you are writing for a deadline you tend to repeat your favourite tropes.

comments
