[Hikaru no Go] Plot Bunny Dump: Akira no Go
Here is the Hikaru no Go story that someone should write:
Akira no Go
Just think how insane Touya would become with Sai around him all the time--cute and noisy and demanding and utterly unbeatable Sai. They’ll be great friends but also wary rivals--because Touya is already an exceptional player, already a challenge to Sai, and Sai will look at him the way he starts looking at Shindou later on in the series.
But Touya won’t let Sai play anyone else because he knows people will get suspicious, which doesn’t make Sai a happy Go-ghost. So Touya hides in his room playing Go with Sai and his parents and especially Ogata are suspicious anyway, and Touya naturally lets Sai play on the internet (because Touya has a home computer and knows how to use it, unlike Shindou), and people notice Touya and Sai’s styles converging and they’re suspicious too.
Someone (maybe Waya?) puts forth the theory that Sai is a kid because of the times when he’s online, and Touya smartens up and lets Sai play at different times and with different screen names but Sai’s style is so distinctively like Shusaku’s and so mind-numbingly brilliant that everyone recognizes him anyway. And Yang Hai does an IP trace and notices Sai seems to live in the Touya household and all hell breaks loose and next thing you know Touya changes his name to Yagami Raito and becomes a paranoid killer.
(Meanwhile, Hikaru is totally oblivious about Go and becomes the Prince of Soccer, leading his junior high team to conquer the nation. At soccer.)
I would totally read that story. But someone else has to write it. Someone who can write stories with plot. Preferably Hotta and Obata, but I welcome any other interested party who can string two sentences together to write it.
Makes you realize that most of the comedy and dramatic tension in HnG comes from Hikaru screwing up and letting someone know a little too much about Sai. If Sai had attached himself to someone more careful and knowledgeable (like Touya) it would be a totally different story. Like, er, Death Note.
