Eh? I find your reviews wonderfully specific a lot of the time, actually! You usually point out lines that you like and tell me why very clearly. Giving specific reviews is a LOT of work, and you always do it, which I can't express enough appreciation for. I think there's nothing wrong with telling an author your personal response--in fact, I think that's what authors want. The most powerful reviews I've read have usually had something deeply personal in them. (I'm actually thinking of these Ender's Game fan letters that Card included in the introduction to one of the newer editions of the book. They were from people who were uniquely positioned to comment on the book--a gifted kid, someone in the military, and maybe one other.)
I haven't heard anything about a love interest for Ender--I honestly don't know where they'll find the time for that!--but I am annoyed about how messy Ender's room looks: http://endersgameblog.tumblr.com/ (scroll down) It's such a small thing to be annoyed at, but I am annoyed anyway. Ender seems like too much of a control freak to have a messy room.
Hm, I think you can get away with less plot (and by plot I usually mean action) in fanfiction one-shots because we can ride on the canon's coattails. People already know the overall plot; they're just sliding a few more details in when they read fanfiction. We can get away with less imagery and character-building too. But plot, imagery, and character-building are actually the hardest things to do well in fiction IMO. I think I won't really learn how to do those things unless I write something original, or at least longer fanfiction with some original characters and settings. There's a big difference between evoking and creating. I'm not knocking fanfiction, mind you, I love the stuff, but it does require a different set of skills.
Heh, I will hold you to your promise to buy my non-existent future book. I will price it at a million dollars and there will only be one copy mwa ha ha.
