No, that's not strange. I guess that is how I'd define it as well,I just never thought to. And by that dividing line I'd still say that "Westen fandoms" don't guarantee quality at all. If anything quality depends on what kind of fanbase the orignal attracts. And as such things go, Hikago is pretty high in standard (- whereas Twilight fandom, for instance, makes me very, very afraid...)
