Re: You are my chocolate adrenaline

Oh my gosh, would you really be interested in SaiSa fics? :D That's awesome because that particular side of the RK fandom could really do with a boost! I'd recommend first and foremost "Dreaming" by Ms Jadey (link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/976009/1/), the SaiSa fic to beat all SaiSas. It's canon-compliant (as far as I remember of canon), thick with introspection, and superbly characterized. "Dreaming" is definitely the jumping board for SaiSa. And then, if you're still feeling open to the pairing, "Resolutions" by Tokimaru (link: http://www.nabiki.com/nichan/archive/Authors/Tokimaru/) is a pretty good, also mostly canonical story, with a dose of action and a nostalgic atmosphere that throws you back to the old samurai days. "West of the Sun, East of the Moon" by FarStrider (link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1776431/1/West_of_the_Sun_East_of_the_Moon) is another of my favorites, this one an adorable, off-kilter AU, a retelling of the classic fairytale SaiSa style. There are a few more fairly good ones but not many, which continually surprises me considering, well, how slashable they are in canon!

You know, I do remember reading a few dark!Crystal Tokyo SM fanfics now that I think of it. The extent of Serenity and Endymion's corruption differed widely for each fic, but even if they were just a tiny bit morally ambiguous, I would high-tail it with the speed only a preteen in denial could achieve. That's the attraction (and the problem in fanfiction) with Sailor Moon, I think: it's meant to be entirely idealistic, so using it as a medium to explore reality almost goes against its canon. At least, that was the root of my own aversion to dark SM fics; they shattered my perfect little bubble!

But of course, now that I'm older and wiser and more corrupt myself, what else is fanfiction for but to, as you said, turn things upside down? :D

And even if you could find an incorruptible (is that a word?) leader, her successors would not necessarily be so benign.

Right. And what the series tries to imply, I think, is exactly that, that Usagi simply possesses too pure of a heart to be corrupted, which isn't particularly realistic but is a nice hope to hang on to. Yes, incorruptible is definitely a word! Incorruptible, incorrigible - one of my favorite pairs of words. XD

Ohh, yes, that's a great point on the characters of Ami, Usagi, and Raito. It came through very well in this fanfic; I could clearly see the similarities between Ami and the "supporters of Kira," and you brought it a step further with the "She certainly didn't know me" bit. Ami as the quiet, neglected obedient in the sidelines, resentful of if also admiring of the one in the spotlight is an image terrifyingly applicable to most of us. The perfect personality for a follower.

You're welcome for the comments! There's absolutely no need to thank me. I really enjoyed this fic and the thoughts it provoked. And that's another great thing about fanfiction. It's a wonderful alternative of discussion to the usual essay-form venue of expression. And I can't wait for those DN fics! Happy writing!
