Eeeee! *flails* This was so awesome. The bizarre thing is, I found my way here while looking for Rurouni Kenshin SaitouxSanosuke fics (through http://www.therck.org/, more specifically). The idea of Ami researching Kira? It was like chocolate and adrenaline and everything right rolled into one; I had to have a look-see. And the best thing is, I'm even more intrigued after finishing the story.
It's been many years since I last touched Sailor Moon, so I don't have much authority on their characterizations. As far as that goes, nothing prickled at me except for brief moments of weird maturity on Usagi's part (which is justifiable).
I love how you question Crystal Tokyo. I never did back then. Certainly, I never completely bought into "a perfect world of love and justice," but the whole point of Sailor Moon for me was that they (we) were trying to get to that perfect world. The process, more than the ideal, was what appealed, and I never gave much thought to what the foundation of Crystal Tokyo might be.
initial cohesiveness of Crystal Tokyo will be based on the shared need for survival and the threat of youma attack, but this will eventually give way to a proper civil order Doesn't that just sound scarily primitive? Is it possible to rebuild a world -without- a totalitarian system though?
But anyway. Yes, the implications behind their conversation was very thought-provoking. Not just Usagi with her brand of selfishness but also Ami acquiescing to her princess. Juxtaposed next to the talk of Kira and Kira's supporters, it's not the most comfortable of portrayals. And then Raito with his soothing voice and magnetic egoism and Ami of all people being drawn to it. ("I knew of her. She certainly didn't know me." That stuck with me.) Very interesting ideas.
My favorite? The image of Kira laying the foundations for Crystal Tokyo is brilliantly perfect, so right, and I wonder that the thought hadn't occured to me before. He would be thrilled to know it.
Anywho. Thanks for some very interesting stuff to mull over. I've also finally remember why your username is so familiar. I forgot that you write in the HnG fandom. :) I'd love to see more Death Note stuff from you! Best wishes!
You are my chocolate adrenaline
